Skirting a fleece means to lay the wool out on a table and pick through it removing bits of hay, poop, and any other rubbish the sheep has collected on themselves.
I had all these grand intentions of getting all the fleeces skirted the same day they were sheared. I guess it’s good to have a dream. Shearing took longer than I expected and we were exhausted. And the weather was changing. I like to do the skirting outside with lots of sunlight. March winds and April’s rain really dragged down my progress.

.
Whenever all the elements… weather and my schedule all came together I’d get out another fleece or two and take them out to the skirting table in the barnyard. Meanwhile they are safely stored on shelves in the garage.

At the moment I am close to having them all sorted. I just have the three black fleeces to go.
Then some big decisions on how to sell them… or use them.
I’ve got my eye on some lovely natural dyes.
